BITTERSWEET SOFT SPOTS AND SOME FRESH CINE CANDIES FOR THOSE WITH SWEET TOOTH
MOVIE AS A GIFT
(ONE MORE PIQUANTERY FROM SPLIT; CROATIA AND OTHER STORIES)
Following the recent posts on the "Friends of the Armchair Traveler" blog, I noticed the immense happiness of their authors connected with the fact that they can share the published materials with other people via the Internet and without any obligations or compensations. Peter`s “gifts” from “AEON” Magazine, production houses that allows the authors to share their own works as “gifts” with friends and others (“My Life as a Turkey” “case”) , David`s treatment of his own and supervised video materials during presentations arranging etc.
Thinking about giving someone a personally made and unpublished film as a gift on some ordinary occasion (instead of flowers or chocolates) lead me to the idea to use this gesture to express myself in the context of meeting an unusually nice female doctor who was apparently given the task (by the authorities at the local hospital here in Split) of "examining my brain" from the alter side during a formal dental examination of the bad teeth. She showed exceptional qualities for that “mission". And, what could be counted as the most impressive thing, she kept my penis in a completely lethargic mood all the time.
But, for a moment I believed that those were no socially directed stupid plays all around me and so I fell in love with that attractive and still young enough female doctor. That's how this 10 minutes long experimental film “The Gift” was planned. Of course, it would be too embarrassing for me as a decent person to disturb a medical professional with outbursts of my wild emotions so I prepared the same material for this wonderful blog and it`s exclusive worldwide associates and audience. Darko Duilo - The Gift (2020)
While finalizing "The Gift", I was parallelly working on a short 6 minutes video memoriam dedicated to Aldo Tambellini (1930-2020), Italo-American cult avant-garde artist whose song I used recently as the verbal light motif for my “pastorally-experimental” film "Listen":
Darko Duilo - Listen (2022)
In the spring of 2019, I arranged a retrospective of his works with Aldo. It should have been held at the Cine Club Split, and he personally expressed his desire to visit the city if his health condition allows him to. The news of his death in January 2020. deeply shook me, and all the correspondence we had through Facebook unfortunately disappeared forever with the permanent blocking of my profile. What a great man he was. Follow the link to watch "In Memoriam Aldo Tambellini":

Bitter(sweet) enough? OK, here comes three candy bars desert for experimental avant-garde animation fans. In one of my previous “FotAT” posts I have presented three underrated experimental cinema authors and promised three more from a different compartment. So, please, follow the links given and enjoy these simple and sweet extravaganzas from George Munday, Nicola Pavone and Niall Dickinson.

Greetings from Split; Croatia,

Hey Darko, how are we ever going to keep up with you? I thought this was going to be a lovely bittersweet morsel and now we have an encyclopaedia of the avant garde! But it was most reassuring to note that your emotions were completely under control while having your head examined by that lovely lady dental operative. I've always thought it could be a problem especially when you desperately want to tell the lovely lady torturer that you are head over heels in love with her while she is grinding away at a few stray nerves. And how muchmore it complicates matters when you know she is really just an agent for the secret police and her dental artistry is merely a cover for her espionage contract with the Authorities. Over here my life is less complicated... I also have teeth, not too many, but like yours in desperate need of attention. Fortunately I've found the ideal lady dentist, a beautiful young Indian woman who is extremely quietly spoken and she inflicts no pain, none at all. The only problem is that I can''t see her when she's working as she has put some really dark glasses on my face to protect my failing eyesight. However I don't mind as I know she's going to save my last remaining teeth, I won't tell you how many or how few, and so I might yet avoid the nightmare of having "false teeth". By the way I'm sure she is not an agent for our State, because our State is so inept that they advertise everything they are doing for the USA v. China on our National broadcaster the ABC... I'm sure the Chinese don't mind as it saves them having to bug all our state and business entities.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your lovely confections Darko,
pt
And mainstream oriented ljust ike a good girl should be...
DeleteI'm glad we made you laugh, David... Hope you like the post and it`s info dimension... Just watching some stop motion animations from three fresh and interesting authors... Think I`ll present them in my next post for the blog... And rendering my new experimental short at the same time... sentimental and depressing, but with a lot of love as always... :)
