"Mansions in Eternity" ... by David King.

Yesterday I received an email from our friend David concerning his recent work

"Mansions in Eternity"

This film has been held back for release later in the year, but as David explains, it is now included in a new collection linked below.

Hello Peter,

Just thought I would share with you the news that my film Mansions in Eternity has been selected by German curator Wilfried Agricola for his Peace Letter to Ukraine project which includes films by some of my highly-respected peers in the experimental field.

I'm very happy to stand in solidarity with Ukraine in one of the few ways I can - as a filmmaker. The program (including my film) is linked below.

I have a long association with Wilfried Agricola stretching back to 2011 when he selected my first (after many decades) experimental film Dystopic Overload for his globe-trotting Cologne International Videoart Festival which screened films at many other festivals, galleries and museums around the world. He also picked up my What If You Woke One Day...? but subsequently he fell ill and was placed in an induced coma to save his life and the festival ground to a halt. Upon his recovery he became a passionate advocate for human rights issues (particularly those centering around war and its repercussions) and his programs began to reflect this change. Although we kept in touch, I have not had another film selected by Wilfried until now.

I hope you enjoy the selection. If the link doesn't work for some reason, copy and paste it into Google. There are some amazing works in here and I'm sure you'll enjoy some of them.

Cheers,
David.

"Cinema Reborn" Rides Again!

Just received from my fine friend Geoff Gardner

Hi Peter,

As the director of the very first film ever shown at Cinema Reborn, way back in 2018 I thought I would send you some early advice for your blog followers and any others with whom they share their thoughts.

This year’s Cinema Reborn catalogue is being distributed a little differently.

Instead of us just printing a small number of copies and selling them during our event there will still be a limited number of copies printed but we are expecting a far broader readership by making it available free online via our Cinema Reborn website and via the Ritz Cinemas website.

This year’s edition is 76pp of absolutely splendid critical commentary. It is already posted on the Ritz website so I thought I would pass along the link. You can now read it, download it into your PC or print it out if you wish.

The publication was designed and laid out by Cinema Reborn’s great friend David McLaine to whom we owe a huge debt of thanks.

Here is the link:

https://www.ritzcinemas.com.au/content/Cinema%20Reborn%202022%20Program.pdf

Feel free to pass on the link to assist us in getting the word out for and about Cinema Reborn 2022

All best,
Geoff

Geoff also included this link for the trailer for the film "Mr. Klein" directed by Joesph Losey. Although I am an admirer of many Losey films, especially "The Servant", I have not yet seen "Mr. Klein".

Maggie's Dream... accomplished!

As you all know from previous postings both on Facebook and on this blog since March last year, I have been following the dream which Maggie Grout initiated about 7 years ago.

Maggie's dream to provide low cost education infrastructure to people in third world countries burdened with non-existent budgets, very poor natural resources or facilites led her to establish the "Thinking Huts" project. In the time which has passed since 15 year old Maggie set up her NGO (?) she has gathered together a very competent team of supporters and now they have completed Stage 1...  this is a proptotype building in Madagascar, a "printed" concrete building!

Yesterday I received this brief email from Maggie after the opening of her dream building in Madagascar.

Hello Thinking Huts Family!

April 14, 2022.

We did it! Truly a miracle. 7 years bringing everyone together to achieve this large vision.

I will be forever grateful for our dedicated and selfless volunteers, our architects Defining Humanity and local construction team.

This is a journey formed by the incredible people, serendipitous paths crossed, that came together to unconditionally support and believe in not just me but a vision much greater to profoundly impact the world — in the pursuit of bridging the gap between poverty and opportunity through education.
Now let’s raise the funds to continue ðŸ’«

Thank you for believing in us!

Maggie

What Maggie didn't say in her thank you email is that they started forming the slab for this building just a few months ago, and they only began "printing" it on the slab about one month ago. The following images show the printer had reached the site about March 14th.

In these images sent by Maggie yesterday you see the brand new building at its opening ceremony. It was printed onto the slab, topped with a roof, then windows and doors were added, all in just one month!

And here's a shot of Maggie with some members
of the team which achieved this dream!

BUT THIS IS ONLY STAGE ONE

For any of our firends interested in following Maggie's plans for the future:
