HOW CAN THIS BE?


Every day for four years we've had neverending news of destruction and death in Ukraine while the rest of the world just keeps dithering?


All the "great powers" pontificate, posture and deliberate, but the war keeps going without any significant interruption. 


There have been some pauses, but very few.


Despite Trumpo's deep desire for a Nobel Peace Prize, Putin is not ready to let that happen.


Netanyahu has his own agenda in demolishing Gaza, continuing the murderous war of attrition or revenge which started on 7th October, 2023 which began with Hamas's horrible murders of Israeli citizens.


Iran's hideous leadership which is hated by a huge section of the Iranian population continues it's subjugation of the nation, while Trumpo pretends to side with the people of Iran and issues warnings of another massive US incursion which might have the result of starting World War III, if that war has not started already.

Military losses

The analysis has several main findings. 

Russian forces have suffered approximately 1.2 million casualties (killed, wounded, and missing) and as many as 325,000 killed since February 2022.


Ukrainian forces likely suffered somewhere between 500,000 and 600,000 casualties, including killed, wounded, and missing, and between 100,000 and 140,000 fatalities between February 2022 and December 2025.20

The number of Ukrainian soldiers killed on the battlefield in the four years of war with Russia is 55,000, President Volodymyr Zelensky has said.

In his interview with French television, he said: "In Ukraine, officially the number of soldiers killed on the battlefield - either professionals or those conscripted - is 55,000."


The United Nations has proven to be utterly useless in both Ukraine and Gaza.


One might say they have proven to be pretty damned useless wherever they are needed in our world.


They have not been beneficial to the people of Sudan, the population of Myanmar, and they are utterly useless in the Middle East at large.


There are so many reasons why the UN is useless, but there are no obvious remedies. And now we find the world is at the mercy of the dithering US and the not so united nations which constitute the European Union.


Meanwhile the people of Gaza live in their own version of Hell on Earth, the people of Ukraine live in their version of Hell on Earth, while Putin and Netanyahu continue to smile their hideous smarmy smiles!












These two criminals seem to be quite happy with the way things are going!

While Putin pays zero attention to anything the President of the US wants, 

Netanyahu continues to be the tail that wags the dog!

Farewell To A Dear Friend

Our friend Nigel Buesst. A friendship of so many years, 62 years since we first met. Plenty of water under the bridge. Nigel at home with his minder, Jedda  photo by Ivan Gaal I was just starting out in my life as a filmmaker, working at the State Film Centre in the library section. One day I was on counter duties, receiving films returning from borrowers and handing out films to other borrowers. In walked Nigel with a bundle of films under his arm, returning them from a film society he was involved with at the time. I think it was the CSIRO film group and Nigel was collecting another bundle which they would run in an upcoming programme. A short conversation of a few minutes at the counter established that we were both interested in making films and soon enough we became close friends. Nigel was about to shoot “Fun Radio” which was a real buzz for me. The End of Humanity!

In fact I have a great aversion to hospitals even when they are relatively clean and well run as I have found here in Australia. Even at my worst moment in 2015 at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, I was never confronted with a ward such as we see in the image above. The procedure I was in hospital for required an operation in the middle of the night, in a theatre which was "under construction"... it was being "renovated" while still being used for serious operations! I was aghast at the situation but had I had no choice, it was an emergency and I was happy to be looked after by people who cared about my wellbeing and did their best under the circumstances.
