A LOT OF ROT
ANOTHER GIFT FROM AEON
I found this short film to be stunningly filmed and edited... it's a complex subject which straddles many fields of inquiry, superb microscopy, time lapse imaging, rich word associations, playfulness with philosophical ideas, etc.
I wonder what you will make of it?
While were are on this page, I've invited David King and Darko Duilo to assist me with running this blog. There are 7 other people already listed as writers and admins who may also post blogs on this site. Some of these good friends have contributed in the past.
However we would like to encourage all our friends to have a go.
It's not like Facebook, it gives you a opportunity to post a serious item for consideration by people who are keen to be involved and who will give intelligent comments, and hopefully we'll never have to deal with the riff-raff often found on other social media outlets.
Please let us know if you would like to be listed under permissions as "authors'.

Very happy to 'man the ramparts' when I can. As an Admin I would like to encourage humor and the fantastic so if any of you good people out there have any ideas along these lines, feel free to shoot me one. A line that, is, not a bullet.
ReplyDeleteThe film posted above is a most astonishing piece of work. Please view it if you haven't already. I see astonishing works all the time as part of my role as curator of two international video programs. But this left me gob-smacked. The visuals alone are to die for. The educational V/O is far from dry or boring. You're very likely to be spell-bound by this piece!
ReplyDeleteI thought this one would make a great appeal for you David. I'm astonished by it, not just technically though it is impeccable on that level. But intellectually as well, so many resonances! Isn't it reassuring to know that there are many people out there still creating wonderful work, stunning work which we can access so easily. To be able to share such works as this it the reason I make any effort at all these days while the world we live in is devouring itself like the microbes in this film.
DeleteWhat a triumph Peter! This is something that has often fascinated me and is almost too overwhelming to watch on so many levels. Back in my VEA (educational video) days, this is something I would have loved to have made, but the hours and budget involved would never have extended to those little productions. An examination of the credits reveals much of the substance of people, organisations, funds, and fungi involved in this work. It is simply stunning. But likewise it is a triumph of the overlap, of the intersection between science, art, philosophy and even cosmology. Worlds within worlds, life and death. Even the linguistic and cultural implications are explored here, layered over with the richness of animation and musical interpretations. Ripe it is, indeed, for endless meditation. A prayer to the deepest mysteries of life and its source.
ReplyDeleteThanks to all those who made it, and thanks to you for sharing it.
btw, if you want to look more into the background of all this, there's a website with BTS media & stories about it all: https://www.wroughtfilm.ca 7 YEARS in the making (5yrs of fermenting things), and no doubt one very smelly flatbed scanner, haha.
