The Game of Life (Photography of Robert Rosen)

Once upon a time, about 1970-ish, I met a young chap in my editing room.

Monique, Luke and I were living at Punt Road, South Yarra... Luke was only about one year old, he's now 56!!!

Paul Cox had set up his photographic studio in the place next door.

(Watercolour by a friend of Paul's whose name I have forgotten.

I think it was Jean Francois? He ran the Bullfrog Restaurant in Carlton)

I had set up a freelance editing room and small production house named "Filmmaker".

I had an editing assistant named Lee Harper, a very gentle young man just out of school at Melbourne High.

One day a friend of Lee named Peter Leiss called in and we met briefly.

55 years later, by sheer coincidence, thanks to the vagaries of the Great Cosmic Jester, with connections via Bill Mousoulis and Nicholas Nedelkopoulos, our paths crossed again.

This is what Peter sent me today:

Robert Rosen, Part 1

ROBERT ROSEN, PART 2

ROBERT ROSEN, PART 3

I don't recall ever meeting Robert Rosen in those days, but I'm sure he was around and about the hub in Punt Road, South Yarra... it was like a train station, people were coming and going all the time.

I think Robert's amazing life as recorded by Peter Leiss expresses wonderfully the vagaries of the Great Cosmic Jester in this game called life!

Many thanks to you, Peter Leiss.

  1. Enjoyable little docos, certainly Robert has a lot to say, as he's had some great adventures ! And indeed stuff all those naysayers when young artists say they'd like to play with something !

  2. Oh the connections Peter! A friend called Lee Harper leading to a Vogue photographer now living in Bali doing charity work; it's a ripping yarn for sure! Windows into other worlds of parallel times & places. Thanks to the other Peter (Leiss) and yourself for capturing these little slices of glam, glitz and fame.
